Announces Promotions and US tour

The Hong Kong Ballet is delighted to announce the recently joined and promoted dancers, as well as a US tour to Northrop, Minneapolis on 6th and 7th November 2014.


In the 2014/15 season there are 13 dancers who have joined The Hong Kong Ballet: Coryphées Nina Matiashvili and Charles Andersen; Corps de Ballet Ai Wen, Liang Yong Lin, Francesca Loi, Yuri Moriwaki, Yui Sugawara, Nicole Zadra, Lucas Jerkander, Jiang Xin and Murman Kikalishvili; and Apprentices Irene Kam and Hui Ka Chun.

There are 10 dancers who have recently been promoted: Principal Dancers Liu Yu-yao and Li Jia-bo; Soloists Dong Ruixue, Liu Miao-miao, Li Lin and Shen Jie; Coryphées Leung Chun Long, Song Hai Feng, Jonathan Spigner and Frank van Tongeren. Vanessa Lai, who was an apprentice last season, has officially joined The Hong Kong Ballet as a member of the Corps de Ballet.

The Company has continued to raise its international profile by conducting more than 30 tours to 10 countries in North and South America, Europe and Asia. On 6th and 7th November 2014, the Company will tour to Minneapolis, USA, and perform at the Carlson Family Stage at the Northrop, University of Minnesota. Two performances of the ballet Turandot will be staged by two different casts.

An adaptation of the opera, Turandot is a ballet of power, lust, and revenge with visually stunning sets, drama, and accompanied by Puccini’s original music. The dazzling spectacle of Turandot revolves around the love triangle surrounding the princess Turandot, who shuns potential lovers with her heart of ice.
